HISTORY OF BARANGAY PASIHAGON

Pasihagon is a barangay located in the municipality of Siquijor, within the province of Siquijor, Philippines. As of the 2020 census, it has a population of 1,258 residents.

The name “Pasihagon” is derived from the Cebuano word “sihag,” which means “to shine” or “to glitter.” This could be attributed to the area’s natural beauty, possibly referencing the shimmering effect of sunlight on its coastal waters or landscapes.

Historically, Siquijor was established as a municipality in 1794, the same year its parish was founded.While specific historical records about Pasihagon are limited, it is likely that the barangay developed alongside the broader growth of the municipality.

Geographically, Pasihagon is situated at approximately 9.2060° N latitude and 123.4640° E longitude, with an elevation of about 6.1 meters (20 feet) above sea level. It shares borders with the barangays of Cang-alwang, Tongo, Caipilan, and Tambisan.

Over the past decades, Pasihagon has experienced steady population growth. In 1990, the population was recorded at 799 individuals. By 2020, this number had increased to 1,258, reflecting the barangay’s ongoing development and the resilience of its community.
